Knapp Charter Academy

Grand Rapids' Knapp Charter Academy endorses the following dress code:

All Students:

• Modest dress at all times. Modest dress includes makeup, hair, clothing fabrics, perfume and jewelry. Clothing should fit appropriately, not being too tight or overly baggy.
• Pants must be in good condition, without holes and patches. No Spandex. No pajama pants. No track pants, sweatpants or running pants. Pants must sit at the waistline. Although belts are not required, students will be sent home if pants sag below the waistline without a belt.
• Shirts – all shirts or sweaters worn to school may have a consistent pattern but may not display any wording, numbering or logos great than 2”x2”.
• Tee shirts are allowed and may have a consistent pattern but may not display any logos, pictures, numbering or wording on the front or back of the tee shirt. A logo no greater than 2”x2” will be allowed. When in doubt, choose solids for school. Exception: Knapp Wear items will be allowed other than hoodies.
• Hooded sweat shirts will not be allowed. Knapp Wear hoodies will also not be allowed during the school day.
• Students may not wear baseball hats, do-rags, or bandanas, including before and after school.
• Personal Hygiene – students should be clean and neat. Students are expected to maintain their hygiene throughout the day by washing their hands before eating and after using the restroom.
• Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Colored, dyed or highlighted hair must be of natural tones.
• Wearing, carrying or displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs or symbols of gang membership is prohibited.

Boys :

• No tank tops or muscle shirts. Shoulders must be completely covered by a sleeve. Shirts must be long enough to be tucked in and remained tucked in with movement and when arms are raised.
• Shorts must be no shorter than 5 inches above the knee.
• Body piercing ornaments and any distracting jewelry such as chains or collars are not permitted.

Girls

• No spaghetti strap shirts, halter tops, tank tops, or muscle shirts. Shoulders must be completely covered by a sleeve. Shirts must be long enough to be tucked in and remained tucked in with movement and when arms are raised.
• Shorts, skorts and skirts must be no shorter than 5 inches above the knee.
• Make-up needs to be worn in good taste. A student wearing make-up in a way to draw attention or distract others will be asked to wash it off.
• Jewelry must be modest. Anything that could be distracting or dangerous will not be permitted.
