Knights at the Middle School
Our middle school team provides a smooth transition for our students as they become more independent in their responsibilities. Sixth through eighth graders have a team of teachers who are dedicated to instilling and developing the school's moral focus virtues and rigorous academics. Working as a team, they are the cornerstone of a system that not only meets the students' academic needs, but emotional needs as well. One of these components includes taking a Life Skills class that emphasizes the virtues and their elements as they apply to daily situations students may face, especially in high school. Students are also taught how to use a daily organizer. Daily planners and notebooks help provide a structure for middle school students, while still allowing them to experience the requirements of individual responsibility.
The house system adds some fun to the accountability built into the middle school. Each grade level is represented in three houses that battle for the yearly championship. Students accumulate points throughout the year by participating in a myriad of events such as intramural sports, chess club, or special classroom proceedings. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves and are also awarded points for attitude, team tryouts, drama production tryouts, and honor roll. The house system creates a spirit friendly competition while positively rewarding students for their passion, efforts and participation in the middle school community.
Academic Fair
One of the most anticipated events for our Middle School Students is our Annual Academic Fair. This event is held once a year and encompasses the entire school day. Students are paired up in teams by houses. Each team consists of one 6th, 7th, and 8th grader. The teams spend the day competing in various academic competitions. Teams rotate through the middle school classrooms participating in challenges that involve the subjects of history, language arts, science, and math. Teams are given points for correct answers to the various questions. As the day progresses, the students tally up their points. The day ends with the team that has the greatest point total winning the competition. The winning team is rewarded with a prize as well as earning the point for their “house.”
Middle School Electives
Our middle school students are given the opportunity to choose the elective classes they take at Knapp Charter Academy. Each year they choose between playing in the school band and singing in the school choir. They also have a choice in PE classes. These choices include such sports as basketball, flag football, or soccer. They may also choose a fitness or recreational games class. For their art electives, some of the possible choices are drawing, painting, or ceramics.
Middle School Sports
Middle school students have the choice of participating in many different sports at Knapp Charter Academy. Our middle school sports include: basketball, soccer, and cross country for the boys. For girls we offer soccer, basketball, cross country, cheerleading, and volleyball. Tryouts for each sport are held prior to the beginning of each season. Students playing on a sports team are required to attend three to four practices each week, as well as playing in any games scheduled during their season.
