Our parents understand the incredible responsibility associated with raising successful, healthy elementary and middle school children. This is a team effort. Parents are an extension, and a vital component, of our academic programming. Parents volunteer throughout the school program in elementary and middle school classrooms, on the playground, in extracurricular activities, in the office, and in many other capacities where needed. Active parent interest and participation is essential to meet our goals of excellence at Knapp Charter Academy. We offer parental involvement on several committees including: Moral Focus, Boosters, and Hospitality. The core parent involvement is the School Leadership team (SLT). The purpose of SLT is to support and fund extracurricular school activities and specific supplemental curriculum materials. In addition, multiple parent-led committees provide outstanding critical special services to the school. Our Library committee is particularly active and is dedicated to supporting our reading initiatives: "Accelerated Reader" which challenges students to read outside their comfort zone and "Word Power", a national program, which entices students in a vocabulary competition. Our parents also organize numerous family events that help give Knapp a "neighborhood School" feel. Carnivals, auctions, holiday events, special speakers, and evenings with the Griffins or White Caps are just a few of the opportunities to get involved.
Our newest opportunity for parents to be involved is targeted to our Dads. Two years ago we launched the "Watch D.O.G.S." program at Knapp Charter Academy. Watch D.O.G.S. is a national program that promotes the involvement of Dads in our school. Knapp Dads are encouraged to sign up and spend the day at the school. Watch D.O.G.S. are involved in many different ways during their day at the school. A few of their responsibilities may include helping on the playground, serving lunch, assisting with Middle School PE class or reading to kids in the Library. Our dads really enjoy being part of their children's lives at school. This program has been so successful that we even have uncles, older brothers, and grandpa's signing up to participate.
