“Working at Knapp Charter Academy over the last six years, I have learned that this school is very unusual. It really starts at the top with our leadership and trickles down to everyone in the school. The administration helps to build an environment for success and they provide the best possible example and training to allow the teachers to implement it into their classrooms on a daily basis. Teachers then work to build classrooms that are inviting to all students, whether they are new to Knapp, or they have been there since they started school. It is a building that has consistent expectations throughout. Teachers collaborate and communicate with each other in order to keep uniformity in the classrooms and among the students in them. Each day, the students know what is expected of them from the time they enter the building until they exit at the end of each day. The students feel welcome and so does the staff. Many of the teachers have very close friends that they work with and it makes everyone excited about coming to work, and in turn, it sets an atmosphere where students want to be involved every day. It’s not just an environment where the students want to be involved, but the parents do as well. We have many parents that volunteer from once a month, once a week, up to five days a week. It really builds a feel of family when people want to be here, want to see familiar faces, and it helps to promote the highest levels of learning each and every day. I have heard it over and over as teachers have gone in different directions for various reasons, they always say, ‘I miss Knapp....it was something special.’  We even hear those comments as parents and students move on to high school and college. We have built something special here at 1759 Leffingwell and people notice it, embrace it, and continue to share it with others around them.”
- DeWayne Reed, 5th Grade Elementary Teacher

“I was hired to teach middle school history at Knapp Charter Academy nine years ago for our first 8th grade class. I didn't anticipate that I would be a middle school teacher for as long as I have been, but I can honestly say that I absolutely love middle school kids. It's definitely my niche. It's so great to get to come to school everyday and build relationships with these maturing students; laugh with them, teach them, see them discover new things, watch them make good decisions and learn from their mistakes. I can't imagine teaching anywhere else but at Knapp. The team of teachers that I work with in the middle school is the best of the best; their dedication to making subject matter come alive, building a strong rapport with students, and maintaining a rigorous academic atmosphere is what makes our middle school exceptional.”
- Maggie Terryn, 7th & 8th Grade Middle School History Teacher
